Pre And Aftercare for Injectable Treatments

What you need to avoid before an injectable treatment

Please stop the use of Retinoids, Salicylic Acid, Glycolic Acid and Lactic Acid. Also avoid taking Ibuprofen and drinking alcohol for a few days before a treatment. Also avoid the use of St John's Wort and other medication which may thin the blood (unless prescribed by your GP) for 5 days before a treatment. Avoiding these things will help reduce the risk of bruising and swelling.

Advice to reduce swelling and bruising

Pain killers such as paracetamol can be taken an hour before your appointment to help with discomfort. Take an antihistamine for 5 days before a dermal filler treatment to help suppress your immune system and reduce swelling. Arnica and or Bromelian tablets taken for 5 days before a treatment can help to reduce the risk of bruising. These tablets can be picked up from shops such as Holland and Barrett or ordered online from Amazon. Ensure that you drink plenty of water and have something to eat before your treatment to help prevent you feeling lightheaded.

Following a treatment with dermal fillers

Paracetamol and antihistamine can be taken for any discomfort and swelling from dermal fillers. Arnica tablets and cream can be used after a treatment to help reduce / improve bruising. Drink plenty of water! Dermal fillers love water and this will help it to settle. Avoid heat, hot showers, steam rooms, swimming pools, strenuous exercise for at least 48 hours. Avoid tanning beds and any facials for at least 2 weeks. If lips have been treated avoid hot drinks. We recommend sleeping on your back and with more pillows to keep your head elevated, this will help to reduce swelling. Treat the area very gently for the next week. Dermal fillers can take up to 4 weeks to settle. Wear sunscreen and a sun hat if possible if you're going to be out in the sun. This will help to prolong the life of your dermal fillers. Results from dermal filler treatments on average tend to last between 6 - 12 months. This can vary depending on the speed of your metabolism.

Following a treatment with anti-wrinkle injections

Following treatment with anti-wrinkle injections avoid heat, hot showers, steam rooms, swimming pools, tanning beds, alcohol and strenuous exercise for 24 hours. Do not lay down or lean the head forward (ie gardening / cleaning) for 6 hours following a treatment. Avoid facials for 2 weeks. Do not rub or massage the treated area for 24 hours. When cleansing the skin be very gentle for the next 48 hours. Wear sunscreen daily and a sun hat if possible when out in the sun. This will help the results of the treatment to last longer and protect your skin too. Anti-wrinkle treatments take up to 14 days to take full effect with results lasting between 3 to 4 months before movement gradually returns to how it was before the injections and a repeat treatment is recommended. If you exercise regularly or have a high metabolism the effects could wear off sooner. Between day 14 and 21 the treatment can be reviewed and tweaked if necessary. We are unable to add any more botox between day 21 and up to 12 weeks following a treatment due to the possibility of building a resistance to the product.
